Great question! This happens sometimes, and it can feel very uncomfortable and awkward when it does. At Sol y Sombra Counseling, we offer an initial free, 15-minute consultation call so that you have a low-pressure opportunity to talk with your potential therapist and see if you feel comfortable starting therapy. But it can take a little while to be sure, and we know that sometimes, it’s just not a good fit. When that happens, you can tell your therapist (She won’t be upset! We promise!) and if possible, we can offer you a session with another therapist at Sol y Sombra. If that doesn’t work out, then we can offer referrals to other therapists who will be a better match for you.

-
If needed, you can file a consumer complaint with the Office of the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection webpage.
